COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M (8-2) used a four-run fourth inning to claim a 5-1 victory over Nicholls (1-8) Tuesday night at Olsen Field.

Brodie Greene led the inning off with a double down the left field line and scored two batters later on an RBI single up the middle by Daman Aaron to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead before a costly error by the Colonels extended the inning, sending game to the third with a 5-0 advantage.

Colonel starter Jake Parrish went the distance for Nicholls, at one point retiring 17-straight Aggie batters. Parrish (0-1) gave up eight hits, struck out six batters and walked just one through eight innings of work.

"I'm very proud of Jake Parrish," said Colonel skipper Chip Durham. "He went out and pitched a heck of a ballgame for us against a really good-hitting ball club. Texas A&M is one of the top teams in the country and tonight we saw what we've been looking for from him. He got settled in and just dominated them from the third inning on."

Carson Middleton (2-0) took the win for Texas A&M, lasting 6.2 innings and striking out six Colonel batters.

Nicholls got on the board in the sixth inning when Josh Swenson doubled down the left field line to lead off, advanced to third on an infield single by Brett Cook and scored two batters later on an RBI ground out by Keith Kulbeth.

The Colonels stranded five runners in the game, three of whom were in scoring position.

Brandt Boudreaux extended his hitting streak to four games with an infield single in the fifth inning.

"They had some good pitching," added Durham. "We've just got to do a better job of manufacturing some runs, getting some people on base and getting some more timely hitting."

Swenson finished the game 1-for-3, scoring the only run of the game for the Colonels.

"I'm proud of my club tonight," said Durham. "Take away a mistake or two tonight and we're right there with these guys. This is a game that we can build off of and gain some confidence."

Nicholls will look to even the series as they face the Aggies in game two tomorrow at 3 p.m. Fans can follow the game via live stats at www.GeauxColonels.com.
