No. 12 TIGERS TAKE ONE FROM COLONELS

Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - LSU scored two runs in the second and one in the third, which was enough to edge Nicholls as the Colonels left 11 runners on base in their 3-0 loss to the No. 12 Tigers on Wednesday night.

Of the Colonels' four hits, two of them were credited to senior Kat Harrell as she recorded her 200th and 201st career hits in the loss to make her only the third player in Nicholls' history to have 200 career hits. When she picked up her first hit in the top of third to give her number 200 for her career, she received a standing ovation from 500-plus once the announcement of her accomplishment was made.

"It is a great honor for her and we are all very proud of what she has done for Nicholls," said head coach Jenny Parsons about Harrell.

"As a team, we left too many runners on, and we can't expect to win games if we leave runners stranded like that."

The Colonels (7-14) left at least one runner on-base in every inning except in the bottom of the seventh. Nicholls squandered a bases loaded opportunity in the third, while also leaving two runners on in the first, fourth and sixth innings.

Tabbed with the loss in the circle was senior Krystalin Ensminger as she fell to 3-7 on the season. Ensminger, who was rung up for four illegal pitches, threw a total of 2.2 innings while allowing five hits, three earned runs and two walks against 13 Tiger batters.

Senior Jessica Barksdale replaced her and went the rest of the way only allowing two hits, no runs and no walks in 4.1 innings of shutout relief.

Following Harrell at the plate for the Colonels was junior Kodi Butler with a 1-for-4 performance that included her third double of the season. Also picking up a hit was sophomore Audrey Wood as she finished up 1-for-4 with an infield single.

The Tigers (16-4) scored their three runs on seven hits as both Killian Roessner and Shannon Stein went 2-for-3. Hitting the only homerun of the game was Rachel Mitchell as she finished 1-for-4 with a RBI.

The Colonels will be back in action this weekend against Central Arkansas with Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. The Bears and Colonels will cap off the series with a Sunday contest at noon, and all three games can be followed live statistically on the internet through the GameTracker link.
