THIBODAUX, La. -
Nicholls pumped eight hits and three runs while sophomore Lacey Gros went the distance, only allowing two hits in the complete game shutout as the Colonels defeated the Bears, 3-0, on Sunday.
Gros also fanned 10 in the win to improve to 3-2 on the season as the Colonels' pitching staff did not allow a single run in the series.
"We pitched well this weekend and had strong defensive support," said head coach Jenny Parsons. "Even though we left a lot of runners on, our bats came around when we needed them to get runs in."
The Colonels (10-14, 5-4) started off the game with a run in the bottom of the first when junior Kodi Butler singled through the right side to score senior Kat Harrell from third. Harrell singled in her at bat, but was granted second and third due to an overthrown ball that went into the Bears' dugout.
Nicholls picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with the first coming from sophomore Nicole Smith's RBI double that scored true freshman Tori Lay who reached on an error. Harrell then doubled up the middle that scored Smith to round out the inning.
Central Arkansas (2-18, 0-6) failed to score a single run in all three contest and through six series games since the Bears joined the Southland Conference, Nicholls has out scored them 44-6.
Nicholls will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Baton Rouge, La. to play a mid-week match up against Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
