The Lady Colonel tennis squad split Southland Conference matches this weekend, falling 5-2 to Northwestern State on Sunday, but defeating Central Arkansas 6-1 Monday afternoon.
Nicholls improves to 11-5 on the year with Monday's victory.
In Sunday's match vs. Northwestern State, the Colonels dropped No. 1 doubles 8-2 as Florina Nosca/Natalia Zomora fell to Boo Patzer/Daniela Posada. In the No. 2 match, Anne-Claire Murier/Sanja Stanojcic lost 8-2 to Kathrin Lange/Bianca Schulz. Northwestern State won the No. 3 match by default due to injuries on the Lady Colonel squad.
Nosca picked up a 6-3, 2-6 (10-4) No. 1 singles victory over Patzer, while Zomora defeated Lange 4-6, 7-5 (21-19) at No. 2.
The Colonels dropped the No. 3 singles match 5-7, 7-5 (11-9) as Murier fell to Adna Curukovic and Stanojcic lost the No. 4 match 6-3, 7-5 to Schulz. Sumana Kalyanasundram fell 6-3, 6-2 to Posada in the No. 5 match.
Nicholls dropped the No. 6 match by default due to injury.
On Monday, the Lady Colonels swept the doubles matches. Nosca/Nicole September won 8-5 over Rebecca Miller/Lisa Mainz at No. 1. In the No. 2 match, Murier/Stanojcic defeated Petra Keilova/Rebecca McCullough 8-1, while Zomora/Kalyanasundram claimed an 8-3 win over Charissa Colclough/Jordan Short at No. 3.
In singles action versus Central Arkansas, Nosca won 6-1, 6-2 over Keilova at No. 1 and Zomora defeated R. Miller 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 2 match. Murier claimed a 6-2, 5-7 (10-7) No. 3 win over Heidi Miller, while Stanojcic defeated Mainz 2-6, 6-2 (10-5). In the No. 5 match, Kalyanasundram won 6-3, 6-0 over McCullough. UCA's Short won the No. 6 match by default.
The Lady Colonels will travel to Lake Charles on Saturday to face McNeese State in a 10 a.m. match.
