Box Score

CONWAY, Ark. - The Bears used four homeruns and took advantage of nine walks to claim a 14-4, seven-inning victory over the Colonels Saturday afternoon at Ray E. Didier Field.

Jeremy Cloud improves to 2-2 on the season, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked three.

For the Colonels (6-28, 2-12 SLC), Bryan Myers falls to 1-2, surrendering six runs on six hits through 3.0. The right-hander fanned three and issued two base-on-balls.

Nicholls got on the board early, scoring a run in the first and another in the second. Walter Jones led off the game with a double to left center and scored on an infield ground out two batters later. In the second, Patrick Thompson drew a one-out walk and came around on an RBI double by T.J. Menerey.

But Central Arkansas' offense was too powerful for Colonel pitchers to contain as the Bears scored in every inning, except the fourth.

The real damage came in the seventh when Payton Seelinger led off with a homerun, his second of the day and the next five batters reached on a walk or hit-by-pitch. A fielder's choice and sacrifice fly gave the Colonels two outs before back-to-back walks gave the Bears a 10-run lead.

Jones went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Nicholls, driving a single through the left side in the fifth in addition to his first-inning single.

Brandt Boudreaux was 2-for-4 on the day with one extra-base hit.

Keith Kulbeth drove in two RBI on the day for the Colonels, while Menerey posted one RBI.

For Central Arkansas, Seelinger was 3-for-4 with two homeruns and five RBI.

The Colonel bullpen struggled, giving up eight runs on five hits and seven walks and hitting three batters through 3.2 innings of relief.

Nicholls will attempt to avoid the sweep Sunday in game three. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
