In the final two matches of the regular season, the Colonel tennis squad split decisions, falling 4-3 to Southeastern at home but picked up a 5-0 victory at Alcorn State on Wednesday.
On Tuesday vs. Southeastern Louisiana, the Colonels claimed the doubles point, taking two of the three matches.
Radu Ionescu/Vlad Popa defeated Ondrej Krivka/Matthieu Leboucher 8-3 in the No. 1 slot. At No. 2, Eric Fisher/Phenyo Matong won 8-4 over Vladimir Paunic/Julien Roussel. Alex Gasca-Silav/Sami Mouline fell 8-3 to Alexis Biarneix/Pavol Derkay in the No. 3 match.
Nicholls picked up singles wins at Nos. 3 & 4 as Popa defeated Krivka 6-0, 6-2 and Matong won 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Roussel.
At No. 1 singles, Ionescu fell 6-3, 6-3 to Paunic and Fisher lost the No. 2 match 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 to Leboucher. The No. 5 match went to Biarneix 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 over Shetty, while Gasca-Silav fell 6-2, 6-3 to Derkay in the No. 6 match.
In Wednesday's match at Alcorn State, the Colonels swept the doubles point. Ionescu/Popa defeated Azziz Abdurazacov/Yanik Sharron-Hawkins 8-3 at No. 1. The duo of Fisher/Matong won 8-0 over Michael Okada/Pushpendra Raspurohit in the No. 2 match and Alex Gasca-Silav/Rohan Shetty won the No. 3 spot 8-4 over Gordon Reaux/German Castillo.
Ionescu won the No. 1 singles slot 6-3, 6-3 over Zbdurazacov and Popa claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Okada at No. 2. Fisher defeated Sharron-Hawkins 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Matong won 6-1, 6-1 over Raspurohit in the No. 4 match.
The Nos. 5 & 6 matches were unfinished, but Nicholls held leads in both. When the match was called, Gasca-Silav held a 6-1, 3-2 lead over Maxim Rhazmakin at No. 5 and Sami Mouline was winning 6-0, 4-2 over Castillo.
The Colonels will now travel to the Southland Conference Tournament for post-season action.
