Final Stats

HUNTSVILLE, Tex. - The Colonels dropped two one-run games against the Bearkats losing the first one 2-1 and the second 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Between the two games, senior Kat Harrell amassed two hits which tied her with Christina Thornton with 233 career hits for the school's all-time mark. Harrell went a combined 2-for-8 between the contest as she hit a school best 43rd double.

In the first game, the two teams failed to score until the bottom of the fifth when Sam Houston State (28-24, 13-10) picked up one run off of two hits and an error to take the 1-0 lead. Nicholls (25-24, 12-11) fired back in the top of the sixth when junior Kodi Butler singled to centerfield to score Harrell from second to tie the score at one apiece. Harrell powered the inning with a lead off double.

However, the Bearkats rallied in the bottom of the seventh to score a run to get the 2-1 win over the Colonels. Picking up the loss for the Colonels was sophomore Audrey Wood as she fell to 6-5 on the season while the Bearkats' Brandi Crnkovic improved to 13-14 on the year.

Wood tossed all seven innings for the Colonels allowing nine hits and two earned runs while allowing no free rides and striking out no one. Crnkovic was dubbed with the win in relief after tossing two innings in relief allowing only one hit and no runs while fanning five.

Registering a hit in the contest were Harrell, Butler, junior Danielle Clayton, and seniors Amy Thibodeaux and Rachel Pugh.

The second contest panned out much like the first with both teams struggling to score runs as the Bearkats tacked on one in the bottom of the sixth which proved to be enough to grab the 1-0 victory. Nicholls only had one hit in the game, which was credited to Harrell.

Tossing the entire game for the Colonels in the circle was senior Krystalin Ensminger who allowed only five hits and one run through six innings of work. Ensminger also fanned two and walked two to fall to 8-11 on the season.

Nicholls and Sam Houston State will square off tomorrow at Noon to cap off the series.
