Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - Tulane got two homeruns from Anthony Scelfo - a two-run blast in the top of the first and a two-run shot in the eighth - to power its way to an 11-2 victory over Nicholls Wednesday night at Ray E. Didier Field.

Scelfo finished 3-for-5 on the night with five RBI and two runs scored.

Green Wave hurler Robby Broach picked up the win for Tulane, throwing 6.0 innings of four-hit ball. Broach (4-1) allowed one run, two walks and struck out a career-high nine.

For the Colonels, Justin Breaux struck out a season-high seven Green Wave batters, but gave up six runs on eight hits through 6.2 innings of work. Breaux falls to 1-3 on the season.

"Justin Breaux did a great job for us on the mound tonight," said Colonel skipper Chip Durham. "I'm proud of the way he pitched tonight."

In the Colonel half of the fourth inning, Brandt Boudreaux led off with a double down the left field line, was sacrificed over and scored on a wild pitch to cut the Tulane lead in half 2-1.

The Green Wave added one in the fifth, three in the seventh and sealed the win with four runs in the eighth on two doubles and Scelfo's second homer of the night.

Nicholls put a run on the board in the bottom of the eighth as Keith Kulbeth was hit by a pitch and scored from third on an infield groundout by Shane Barksdale. Barksdale had the only RBI of the night for the Colonels.

Brett Cook had two hits on the night for Nicholls, singling in the first inning and driving a double down the right field line to lead off the sixth.

"We had some situations where we could have produced some runs and couldn't make contact and get a bunt down," added Durham. "If we get some timely hits, you never know what can happen with momentum in a game like this. If we make contact with runners in scoring position, maybe we tie it up or even take a lead, but I though Breaux did a great job keeping us in this game through the seventh inning."

Boudreaux and T.J. Menerey each went 1-for-3 for the Colonels.

Brett Hoeflich made his first appearance of the season on the mound for the Colonels, closing out the game in the ninth inning. Hoeflich allowed one run on one hit and fanned two through his inning of work.

The Colonels will host the Lamar Cardinals in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend at Didier Field. Friday night's first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
