Final Stats

HUNTSVILLE, Tex. - Sam Houston State put together a 7-1 win over Nicholls to complete the series sweep on Sunday.

In the loss, senior Kat Harrell went 2-for-3 to become the Colonels' all-time hit leader with 235 career hits. Harrell also stands seventh on the Southland Conference's all-time hit chart.

The Colonels (25-25, 12-12 SLC) picked up a run in their half of the first inning courtesy of a two-out RBI double to centerfield by sophomore Audrey Wood that scored junior Danielle Clayton from first to give Nicholls their only run of the game.

The Bearkats (29-25, 14-10 SLC) played from behind until the bottom of the fourth when they put two runs on the scoreboard in light of a two-run double to leftfield for SHSU to take the lead for good. Sam Houston State blew the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth with five runs to sink any hopes that the Colonels had of a comeback.

For the game, Nicholls scored one run on eight hits with one error while Sam Houston State scored seven runs on eight hits with no errors.

Picking up the loss for Nicholls in the circle was senior Krystalin Ensminger as she allowed six runs on seven hits through five innings of work to fall to 8-12 on the season.

Standing out for the Colonels at the plate besides Harrell and Wood was sophomore Nicole Smith as she went 2-for-3 in the loss. Registering a hit in the loss was junior Kodi Butler and senior Amy Thibodeaux.

The Colonels will be back in action at home against McNeese State this weekend to close out the home part of their 2008 schedule.
