Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - On a night when the Colonels honored 15 seniors in a pregame ceremony, the veterans took control as Bryan Myers threw his third complete game of the season and Shane Barksdale blasted his third homerun of the year as Nicholls defeated Southeastern Louisiana 4-3 in game one of a doubleheader at Ray E. Didier Field. The Lions claimed a 4-1 victory in game two.

The Colonels finish the season at 10-44 (5-25 SLC), while the Lions head to the Southland Tournament with a record of 29-25 (15-15 SLC).

Game One:

Myers scattered 10 hits through nine innings, allowing three runs and issuing just two base-on-balls. The righty tied a career high, fanning eight Lion batters as he improves to 3-5 on the year.

Eric Callender drops to 0-1 on the season, pitching 2.1 innings of relief with two hits and one run. He struck out three and did not give up a walk.

The Colonels loaded the bases on two infield singles and a walk in the sixth before Brett Hoeflich drove a double to right field, plating Brett Cook and Walter Jones. Anthony Wray picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice that scored Keith Kulbeth as the Colonels took a 3-0 lead after six innings.

Southeastern put a run up in the seventh after Matthew Schexnayder tripled down the right field line and scored on an infield single by Cass Hargis. The Lions added two more in the eighth, knotting the game at three on three hits and a hit batsman.

On a 1-0 count in the bottom of the ninth, Barksdale drove a shot over the right field fence to give the Colonels the lead and the win.

"I'm really proud of Bryan Myers," said Colonel skipper Chip Durham. "He pitched a heck of a game for us in the first game. Shane [Barksdale] got ahold of that pitch and helped us get the win in that game."

Barksdale finished the game 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while Hoeflich was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Brett Cook also had two hits on the night, scoring a run in the sixth.

Game Two:

The Lions scored a run in each of the first two innings. Hargis scored after leading off the game with a double down the left field line and Brian McCants hit a solo shot down the right field line in the second, giving Southeastern all the runs it would need for the win.

Seth Webster finishes the season at 1-6 for Nicholls, giving up two runs on three hits through four innings on the mound. The freshman did not walk a batter and struck out three.

Jacob Sullivan, Nathan Quebedeaux and Joe Hagerty all made appearances out of the bullpen for the Colonels, issuing one walk and striking out four between them.

Southeastern added two runs in the top of the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles for a 4-0 lead.

Nicholls put a run up in the bottom of the seventh, taking advantage of a single up the middle by Patrick Thompson. Josh Swenson pinch ran and scored when Zac Bone lined out to left.

"I think if a few things had fallen differently in game two, we would have had a chance to come away with two wins tonight," noted Durham.

Anthony Marino was 2-for-3 in game two, with two singles, while Brandt Boudreaux, who also went 2-for-3 had a double and a single.

"Mostly I'm just proud of these 15 seniors and what they have done during their time here," Durham added. "We're sad to see them go, but know that they are moving on to bigger and better things, and we wish them all the luck."
