ARLINGTON, Texas -
Bryan Myers, who pitched his second complete game of the season and his first shut out of the year, was near perfection for the Colonels, scattering just five hits through nine innings of work.
The senior right-hander fanned eight Maverick batters, tying a season-high. The last time Myers struck out eight came in his other complete game - April 5 vs. Lamar.
The Colonels got on the board as Anthony Wray drove a two-out shot over the left field fence in the top of the fourth inning to give Nicholls a 1-0 advantage.
Nicholls (8-39, 3-20) added to its lead in the sixth, taking a 3-0 lead when Kevin Persick knocked a basehit to right that plated Shane Barksdale and Wray.
Barksdale led off the inning with a single to right and advanced to third when the next batter, Wray, doubled to left.
Nicholls threatened to add to its lead later in the game, getting runners in scoring position in both the seventh and ninth innings.
The Colonels posted eight hits on the day, led by Wray's homerun in the fourth and a double in the sixth. The senior third baseman scored two runs and drove in one RBI.
Walter Jones also recorded two hits on the day, going 2-for-5 on the day.
Barksdale, Persick, T.J. Menerey and Josh Swenson all recorded a hit for Nicholls. Persick had two RBI, driving in two runs in the sixth.
