CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. - With their postseason hopes on the line this weekend, the Colonels pulled off a series sweep with a 2-0 victory on Sunday over the Islanders to improve to above .500 in conference and overall.

Nicholls (28-27, 15-14) will enter the SLC Tournament as the No. 6 seed due to a loss today by Sam Houston State (30-30, 15-15), and two losses yesterday by Southeastern La. (27-24, 14-15). Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (21-32, 11-19) was eliminated from postseason contention with their opening series loss to Nicholls on Saturday.

The Colonels got the scoring started in the top of the second with a RBI single to right field by senior Amy Thibodeaux that plated sophomore Audrey Wood for the Colonels to go up 1-0. Wood powered the inning with a lead off double.

Nicholls added one more in the top of the third when junior Danielle Clayton knocked a RBI single to centerfield that scored senior Kat Harrell from second base to give the Colonels the 2-0 lead. Harrell singled in her at bat to help start off the inning.

The two-runs in back-to-back innings was all the Colonels needed as senior Krystalin Ensminger kept the Islanders off balance all day as she threw all seven innings only allowing four hits for the shutout victory.

Leading the Colonels at the plate were Harrell and sophomore Nicole Smith as each had two hits. Putting together 1-for-3 performances were Clayton, Thibodeaux and Wood with Clayton and Thibodeaux each having a RBI as Wood had a run scored.

The Colonels will be back in action next weekend in the 2008 Southland Conference Tournament in San Marcos, Tex.
