SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Roadrunners dominated in the paint, outscoring the Colonels 50-to-20 in their 86-33 victory in the Convocation Center on Wednesday night.

Despite the loss, Nicholls only had 19 turnovers, while Texas-San Antonio had a season-high 23 miscues.

"I thought that on defense we applied pressure and got stops early on, but we could not finish on the other end with points," said Head Coach DoBee Plaisance.

The Colonels (0-13, 0-2) were led by senior Tiffany Jones and true freshman Danielle Douglas with eight points each as Jones went the distance, playing the entire 40 minutes. Senior Dominique Washington led the team in rebounds with nine. As a team, Nicholls finished 22.2 percent (14-of-63) from field goal range, and were empty from downtown on 12 attempts.

The Roadrunners (9-6, 2-0) had three players in double digits while being led by Alysse Davis with 21 points off the bench. As a team, UTSA shot 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the floor, and pulled down 57 rebounds to Nicholls' 25.

UTSA went into halftime with a healthy 41-20 lead despite Nicholls forcing 12 turnovers, including three on the Roadrunners' first four possessions, but the Colonels were out rebounded in the first period 23-to-10. Of UTSA's 41 first period points, 23 of them came from the bench; Nicholls only had two bench points at halftime.

For the first half, the Roadrunners shot 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from the floor, while the Colonels shot 29.6 percent (8-of-27). Nicholls failed to connect on a three-point attempt in the first half (0-of-2), while UTSA had four fall (4-of-12) to aid its cause. Leading all scorers at halftime was Davis with 10 off the bench for the Roadrunners, and atop the Colonels was Bryant with seven.

The Roadrunners kept on their tear in the second half, outscoring Nicholls 23-4 over the first 10 minutes. For the half, UTSA outscored Nicholls 45-to-13 on its way to the 86-33 victory.

Nicholls will be back in action on Saturday, when they host Stephen F. Austin (5-8, 0-1) at 2 p.m. It will be the Colonels' first SLC home of the 2008-09 season. UTSA will play on Saturday as well, traveling to Texas-Arlington (7-7, 1-0).
