Box Score

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Sophomore forward Kandice Champagne notched her thrid goal of the season, and her third in five matches, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with Northwestern State (9-8-0, 2-4-0 Southland Conference) as the Demons scored six times to hand the Nicholls State University women's soccer team (4-12-1, 0-5-1 Southland) a 6-1 loss on Friday night.

Neither side could break through in the first ten minutes but the Demons managed to strike first with a 12th minute goal from Chelsea Gibbs. Four minutes later, Northwestern State increased their lead to 2-0 and a 30th minute strike sent the Colonels into the half trailing 3-0.

Northwestern State kept their momentum after the break scoring just over three minutes after play resumed. The Demons went up 6-0 with goals in the 64th and 79th minute before senior Jessica Bedford found Champagne who drilled home her third goal of the season in the 89th minute for the final 6-1 margin.

Nicholls will return to action when the Colonels head to Conway, Ark. for a Sunday afternoon match with the Central Arkansas Bears to cap the road portion of the Colonels' 2009 schedule. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

The Colonels will return to Nicholls on Oct. 30 to open up their final homestand of the year against Lamar.
