Nicholls opened up its 2009-10 home campaign with a 90-50 loss to WAC-power Louisiana Tech on Friday night in Stopher Gym.
The Colonels (0-2) took a 2-0 lead to start the game on a junior guard Ricshanda Bickham lay up, however, that was the last lead Nicholls would have for the remainder of the game as Louisiana Tech built up a 52-23 advantage at halftime.
"We didn't play to the best of our ability tonight," said Head Coach DoBee Plaisance. "I have to give a lot of credit to Louisiana Tech, they are an outstanding team with a lot of depth."
The Lady Techsters (2-0) had a total of five players in double-digits that included every starter with the exception of one. Leading Louisiana Tech in scoring was Adrienne Johnson, while Shanavia Dowdell recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Nicholls was led by Bickham with 18 points that included a 3-for-5 showing from three-point land, while sophomore forward Jasmine Hoskins was the only other Colonel in double digits with 13.
For the game, Nicholls shot 30.9 percent (17-of-55) from field goal range, and put forth its best showing from three-point territory on the season with a 46.7 percent (7-of-15) mark. Louisiana Tech was 58.3 percent (35-of-60) from the floor and 62.5 percent (5-for-8) from behind the arc.
Nicholls will face off against Louisiana Tech in Baton Rouge on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
