Final Stats

THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls women's basketball picked up its second win of the 2009-10 season on Wednesday night in Stopher Gym, defeating Centenary, 56-46.

The Colonels (2-5) were led by true freshman Alisha Allen with 22 points off the bench, while junior Ricshanda Bickham tossed in 13 after sitting out last game due to illness. Of Allen's 22 points, 21 of them came in the second half. Centenary only scored 17 points as a team in the second stanza.

The Ladies (0-10) only had one player in double figures with Bethany Joseph doing the honor with 17. Centenary's leading scorer and rebounder Anne Farrell - averaging 10.7 points and 8.4 rebounds coming into the game - was held to just four points and three rebounds.

Centenary closed out the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 29-24 lead to the locker room at the midway point, however, Nicholls responded in the second half by opening it with a 17-4 run to take a 41-35 lead with under seven minutes left. The Ladies were held to just 10 second half points up until the 3:53 mark of the final period.

"We played much better in the second half," said Head Coach DoBee Plaisance. "I think there is still a lot of work to be done, but I have to give it to my team for hanging in there and playing hard. We made some adjustments at halftime, and it showed in the second half."

In the win, Nicholls committed a season-low 10 turnovers while forcing 26 that led to 22 points. Nicholls bench also was dominant, out-scoring Centenary 26-to-7.

The Colonels will be back in action on Saturday, taking to the road for the first of two games away from Stopher Gym with the Georgia State on tap at 2 p.m. Nicholls will follow up that trip with a Monday contest at Bethune-Cookman.
