Nicholls trailed by 14 at half, 36-22, and cut the lead to eight early in the second, but Southeastern La. got its rhythm back to get the 84-46 victory in the University Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels (1-21, 1-10) came back in the second half to cut the deficit to eight, 38-30, at the 16:50 mark via a Nicholls 8-2 run to start the period. However, the Lions (14-9, 6-4) Charinee Mitchell sank a three to extend the lead to double-digits, 41-30, and Southeastern La. never looked back.
Nicholls had three players score 10 points including seniors Dominique Washington and Christie Bryant, and true freshman Danielle Douglas. Douglas also recorded a game best 11 rebounds, giving her her first career double-double.
As a team, Nicholls held its own on the glass, having 32 rebounds to Southeastern La. 33 boards. The Colonels also shot 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from field goal range, and failed to connect from long distance (0-8) in the loss.
Southeastern La. was led by senior Kristy Carlin with 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks. Senior Kim Edmonson was the only other Lion to cross into double figures with 13, while nine of them came from three-point land.
The Lions shot 51.7 percent (30-of-58) from the floor as a team while finishing with a 43.5 percent (10-of-23) mark from three-point range.
Nicholls will be back in action against Texas State on Saturday February 21 against Texas State. Tip-ff is set for 2 p.m.
