Final Stats
LAFAYETTE, La. -
Nicholls closed out the final day of the 23rd Annual Louisiana Classic with two losses. The first was a 5-1 loss to host school No.19 Louisiana-Lafayette, and the second 8-0 defeat was against Louisiana Tech.
In the first loss against the Ragin Cajuns (5-2), the Colonels (6-4) did not get on the score board until the final inning while ULL scored all its runs in the first three innings. ULL got on the scoreboard in the first when Lana Bowers stole home, and the Ragin Cajuns followed that up in the second with three runs via two extra base hits and a wild pitch.
The Colonels cracked the scoreboard in the final inning when junior Audrey Wood hit a RBI double that scored true freshman Megan Gaspard from third. Gaspard singled in her at bat, and was successfully hit to third by senior Kodi Butler who singled up the middle.
Junior Lacey Gros was dubbed with the loss, throwing 1.1 innings, allowing four runs, and striking out two.
In the second contest, Nicholls fell 6-0 to Louisiana Tech (3-2) in six innings. The Lady Techsters scored three in the first, two in the third, and rounded out the run support with three in the sixth. The Colonels only registered two hits, and Wood picked up the loss.
Nicholls will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Southern. First pitch in Baton Rouge, La. is scheduled for 2 p.m.
