Final Stats

TROY, Ala. - Nicholls men's tennis team lost to Troy 4-3 on Saturday, but bounced back to defeat Alabama State 7-0 on Sunday to split the weekend's matches in Troy, Alabama.

The Colonels (2-2) fell to Troy (1-4) on Saturday in a close 4-3 match. Posting impressive wins in singles for Nicholls was sophomore Radu Ionescu with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in No.1 singles over Troy's Branko Weber, while junior Eric Fisher had similar success in the No.3 spot, defeating Benjamin Chomette 6-3, 6-4.

Senior Vlad Popa also posted an impressive singles victory, taking the 6-3, 6-0 win at No.4 over Xavier Masson. Fighting back from a 6-3 first set deficit was senior Abhaya Prakish, as he forced a third set with Aurelien Tave at No.2. However, Tave won the third set 6-3 to get the win.

The Colonels doubles tandem of junior Phenyo Matong and Fisher got the team's only double point with its 8-2 victory of Chomette and Masson. The other two duos for Nicholls fell 8-6 to concede the doubles point.

In the second match on Sunday, Nicholls came out with fresh legs and dominated Alabama State for the 7-0 win. Not a single match in singles went to three sets, and the Hornets had to forfeit a doubles and singles match due to not having enough players on its roster.

The men's team will resume action at West Florida on Sunday February 15.
