THIBODAUX, La. - The Colonels rode the arm of junior Lacey Gros who pitched a complete game one-hitter to lift Nicholls to a 2-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon at the Colonel Softball Complex.

Nicholls (16-5, 6-0) has now won six straight games, and 10 of its last 11. The Colonels also now hold a 9-0 advantage in the all-time series against the Islanders.

"We are playing total team softball," said Head Coach Jenny Parsons. "My hat really goes off to our pitching staff this week. Lacey and Audrey did a very good job of keeping our opponents off balance."

The Colonels cracked the scoreboard in the first inning via a RBI single by junior Audrey Wood to plate senior Kodi Butler. Butler, who tripled in her at bat, gave Nicholls the 1-0 advantage through one complete.

Nicholls added an insurance run in the fifth when Butler scored on a wild pitch to give Nicholls the 2-0 lead after five, which was good enough for the victory.

The Islanders (7-14, 0-6) only registered one hit and were shutout for the second time this weekend by Gros. Gros fanned nine and did not allow a single runner past second base on Sunday.

On the week, Gros was 4-0 in the circle with a total of 42 strikeouts. The Schriever, La. native also only allowed one run and 10 hits in four appearances.

Leading the Colonels at the plate was Butler, accounting for both runs scored while finishing 1-for-1 with a triple.

Nicholls travels to Baton Rouge, La. to take on LSU on Wednesday March 4. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
