Centerfielder Chris Murrill (Mobile, Ala./Alabama Southern CC) drove a two-out double to right center, plating shortstop Steven Gauthe (Belle Rose, La./Copiah Lincoln CC) for the winning run as the Colonels defeated Southern 3-2 Tuesday night at Ray E. Didier Field.
Nicholls improves to 6-7 on the season, while the Jaguars drop to 3-6.
Freshman Brad Delatte (St. Amant, La./St Amant) picked up the win, throwing 2.0 innings of one-hit relief. The lefty improves to 1-0 on the year.
Murrill led off the eighth with a single up the middle and scored two batters later when rightfielder Scott Moseley (Enterprise, Miss./Meridian CC) singled through the left side, evening the score at 2-2.
With a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, Murrill led Nicholls, scoring a run and driving in an RBI.
Moseley and designated hitter Adam Miley each turned in a 2-for-4 night with an RBI apiece.
Nicholls got on the board in the first inning as second baseman Keith Kulbeth (Opelousas, La./Westminister Christian Academy) scored on a single by Miley.
Southern scored a run in the fifth and another in the sixth, both unearned.
Nicholls finished with nine hits on the night to the Jaguars' six.
The Colonels return to action this weekend, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Southland Conference action.
