SEVENTH INNING RALLY TOO MUCH FOR COLONELS

THIBODAUX, La. - The Central Arkansas Sugarbears used a late three run rally in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Colonels 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Farris Field.

Nicholls led most of the game by scoring two early runs in the top of the first. Colonel shortstop Lindsay Mesh hit a double to left field which scored both Audrey Wood and Danielle Clayton. The Sugarbears then scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 2-1.

In the top of the fifth, Audrey Wood homered to left field which increased the Colonel lead to 3-1.

Nicholls (17-10, 7-3 SLC) entered the bottom of the seventh with a comfortable 3-1 lead; however, the Sugarbears (14-12, 6-1 SLC) rallied with three runs with the help of two Colonel errors. The Sugarbear's center fielder Sarah Garcia started off the inning with a leadoff single up the middle. Garcia then advanced to second on a wild pitch by pitcher Lacey Gros. Sugarbear right fielder Luisa Escobar hit an infield single sending Garcia to third. Central Arkansas shortstop Courtney Brock hit a groundball to second but Danielle Clayton had a wild throw to home which allowed Garcia and Escobar to score tying the game at 3-3. Sugarbear Kasey Britt doubled down the left field line which let Brock score the game winning run.

Holli Hill picked up the win for UCA pitching five innings and giving up five hits and three runs while striking out six. Lacey Gros took the loss for the Colonels. Gros pitched six innings and gave up eight hits and four runs while striking out five batters

Audrey Wood finished the game with two runs, one hit, and one RBI. Danielle Clayton went 2 for 3 at the plate and score one run.

The Colonels will finish the three game series on Sunday in a double-header with Central Arkansas. The first game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
