THIBODAUX, La. - Texas State took the first game 5-1, but Nicholls picked up the 2-0 victory in the second contest to even the series heading in to tomorrow's rubber match set for 1 p.m. at the Colonel Softball Complex.

"I was really pleased with my team's performance tonight. I thought that we played with a great deal of emotion, and rightfully so against the top team in the conference," said head coach Jenny Parsons. "When I spoke with them after the game, I told them that we need to have the same type of attitude and intensity tomorrow."

In the first game, Texas State (19-10, 11-3) cracked the scoreboard first in the third inning to take the 1-0 lead, however, Nicholls (20-11, 10-4) fired back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game via a RBI single by Audrey Wood to score true freshman Megan Gaspard from third.

The Bobcats retook the lead in the fourth, leading 2-1 due to a solo homerun by Ryan Kos to leadoff the inning. Texas State then went on to add three more runs in the top of the seventh on a bases clearing double by Leah Boatright to hold the 5-1 advantage. Nicholls failed to score for the remainder of the game.

Picking up the loss was junior Lacey Gros, allowing only three hits but giving up five runs in seven innings of work. Gros retired five batters on strikes, while her counterpart Chandler Hall racked up a season-high 10 strikeouts in getting the victory. Hall improved to 12-4 with the win, while Gros fell to 10-7 on the season.

Standing out at the plate for the Colonels was senior Danielle Clayton, providing the game's only multi-hit performance with a 2-for-3 showing.

In the second game, the Colonels took the lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Clayton that scored senior Kodi Butler from second. Nicholls then went on to add another in the third via a RBI infield single by Lyndsay Mesh that brought home Gaspard.

Texas State failed to score in the game, leaving 10 runners stranded to the Colonels one. Both teams each put forth three hits in the contest.

Getting the win in the second game was Wood, allowing only three hits and fanning two to improve to 10-5 on the season. Dubbed with the loss was Katie Garnett, giving up two runs on three hits. Garnett is now 7-5 on the season.

Leading Nicholls at the plate in the second game were Mesh and Clayton, each going 1-for-2 with a RBI.
