Box Score
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
The Colonels scored a run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead, but Stephen F. Austin put four on the board in the third and never looked back, claiming a 13-2 victory over Nicholls Friday afternoon at Jaycees Field in Southland Conference baseball action.
Nicholls (10-8, 4-3 SLC) scored two runs on two hits as first baseman Zach Tisdale (Petal, Miss./Pearl River CC) and Josh Swenson (Applevalley, Minn./North Iowa Area CC) each recorded a basehit.
In the second, Tisdale doubled to right center and scored when Swenson singled through the left side.
The Colonels threatened in the seventh, loading the bases and scoring a run on three walks and a hit-by-pitch to cut the Lumberjack lead to 8-2. Freshman Jacob Knight (Thiobdaux, La./E.D. White Catholic) drew a pinch-hit hit-by-pitch with two outs to get the inning started for Nicholls.
But SFA scored five in the bottom half of the inning to cap off the victory.
Righthander Lance Dupuis (Crowley, La./Lurleen B. Wallace CC) falls to 2-2 on the year, allowing seven runs on three hits through 4.1 innings of work. The senior fanned three and did not issue a walk to 21 batters faced.
The Colonels and Jacks will meet again Saturday at 2 p.m. for game two of the three-game series.
