Box Score
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
First baseman Blake Bergeron (Houma, La./Terrebonne) went 3-for-3 at the plate, including an RBI double to right to open a four-run second inning as the Colonels picked up a 6-3 win over Stephen F. Austin in Sunday's finale at Jaycees Field.
With the win, the Colonels improve to 11-9 (5-4 SLC), while the Lumberjacks fall to 7-13 (2-6 SLC) on the year.
Righthander Tyler Minto (Mobile, Ala./Alabama Southern CC) scattered six hits and three runs over 5.0 innings of work, striking out three and issuing just two walks. The junior evens his record at 1-1.
Picking up his second save of the season was senior righty Ross Larson (New Lenox, Ill./Lurleen B. Wallace CC), who held the Jacks scoreless with two hits through 4.0 innings of relief.
The Colonels got on the board first, getting all the runs they would need in the second inning.
After back-to-back singles from third baseman Zach Tisdale (Petal, Miss./Pearl River CC) and leftfielder Josh Swenson (Applevalley, Minn./North Iowa Area CC) to open up the inning, Bergeron's double to right got the scoring started.
The scoring capped off when centerfielder Chris Murrill (Mobile, Ala./Alabama Southern CC) came around on a single by shortstop Steven Gauthe (Belle Rose, La./Copiah Lincoln CC), putting the Colonels on top 4-0.
Stephen F. Austin scored two in the third and another in the fifth, before Larson shut down the Jacks for the final four innings of action.
Nicholls added insurance with a run in the eighth and another in the ninth en route to a 6-3 victory.
Murrill went 2-for-3 with a double and a homerun, while Tisdale also turned in a two-hit day, going 2-for-4.
Catcher Kevin Schlegel (Oklahoma City, Okla./Northeast Texas CC) drove in a team-best two RBI.
The Colonels will travel to Tulane on Tuesday night before hosting Texas Arlington next weekend at Didier Field.
