ARLINGTON, Texas -
Texas-Arlington had four players score in double figures, and were led by senior Candice Champion with 22 points as the Mavericks defeated the Colonels 91-58 at Texas Hall on Wednesday night.
The Colonels (2-24, 2-13) had three players score 10-plus with true freshmen Nadia Cox and Jasmine Hoskins leading the way with 12 each. Senior Tiffany Jones had 10 to round out Nicholls' double digit scorers. Of Jones' points, eight of them came from the free throw line.
The Mavericks (19-9, 13-2) were led by Champion with 22, who now stands with 1,000 career points. Champion also had 10 rebounds, finishing with a double-double. Following Champion was Tamara Simmons and Shalyn Martin who each had 17, while Erin Dixon had 16.
UTA entered the locker room at halftime with a 45-27 lead, shooting 64.5 percent (20-of-31) from the floor. The Mavericks finished 59.3 percent (35-of-59) from the floor for the game to go along with a 78.3 percent (18-of-23) showing from the charity stripe.
Nicholls shot 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from the floor in the first half, but went on to finish with a 32.3 percent (21-of-65) mark for the game.
Nicholls will close out the regular season at home with a tilt against Lamar on Saturday at Noon. Nicholls' four seniors, Christie Bryant, Jones, Funaki Kefu and Dominique Washington will be honored before the game as they all suit up for the last time as a Colonel.
