THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls five-point halftime lead - 35-30 - could not hold against Lamar on Saturday in Stopher Gym as the Colonels fell to the Cardinals 67-55.

Senior Christie Bryant made her last collegiate shot, a three-pointer in the closing seconds.


The contest was the final collegiate game for Nicholls seniors Christie Bryant, Tiffany Jones, Funaki Kefu and Dominique Washington.

"I am very proud of these young ladies for competing the way they did the entire season, and with the effort and determination they showed today," said head coach DoBee Plaisance. "In the locker room after the game, I told them how thankful I was for their hard work and dedication."

Senior Funaki Kefu pulled down three boards in game.


The Colonels (2-25, 2-14) were led by Washington with 17 points in the loss. Washington made a career best 5-of-7 from downtown, and finished 6-of-17 from the floor in 38 minutes of action. Bryant finished with seven, Jones had five, and Kefu added one.

The only other double-digit scorer in the game for the Colonels was true freshman Jasmine Hoskins with 14 off the bench. Hoskins also added a team-high six rebounds.

The Cardinals (19-10, 10-6) had three players in double figures with Nikki Williams leading the way with 15. Darika Hill also added a game-high 13 rebounds.

Senior Tiffany Jones had six rebounds, five points and five assists in her final game as a Colonel.


Lamar started off the game on a 12-2 run to lead by as many as 10 at the 13:29 mark. However, Nicholls went on a tear of its own, going on a 20-6 run over the next five and a half minutes to take the 22-18 lead, and closed out the half on top, 35-30.

After the intermission, the Cardinals were firing on all cylinders, converting 58.3 percent (14-of-24) of their shots from the floor to take the lead. Lamar padded its lead to as many as 16 points - 62-46 with 3:57 left - before Nicholls closed out the game on a 9-5 run. All nine of the Colonels points during the run came from three-point range with Washington connecting on two and Bryant sinking one.

For the game, Nicholls made a season-high eight three-pointers, finishing with a 42.1 percent (8-of-19) mark from downtown to go along with a 38.9 percent (21-of-54) showing from field goal range.
