Final Stats

ARLINGTON, Texas - Nicholls fell 3-0 to Texas-Arlington at Allan Saxe Field in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, but bounced back with a 3-2 victory in the evening cap to square up the series heading into Sunday's rubber match.

The Colonels (17-7, 7-1) lost its first game in conference action 3-0 to start off the series due in large part to a shutout three-hit pitching performance by UTA's Cara Hulme. Hulme fanned 11 batters in the contest, while the Mavericks (6-14, 1-7) put a six-spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth to get the victory.

Picking up the loss for Nicholls in the circle was junior Lacey Gros, throwing all six innings, giving up three runs on four hits.

In the second game, the Colonels took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, and extended its lead in the third with a solo homerun by senior Danielle Clayton. The Mavericks added a run in the bottom of the fifth and in the sixth, but could not tie to extend the game.

Nicholls and Texas-Arlington will square off again tomorrow at noon to close out the series.
