Final Stats
ARLINGTON, Texas -
Nicholls scored four runs in the first inning, but it would not be enough to hold off Texas-Arlington as they came back to win 5-4 on Sunday at Allan Saxe Field.
The Colonels (17-8, 7-2) pumped out four runs on two hits and two errors in the top of the first to take the early 4-0 lead. Senior Kodi Butler started the rally, reaching on an error and advancing to second. Following up was junior Audrey Wood, who also reached on an error that plated Butler for the 1-0 advantage.
Senior Danielle Clayton then drew chalk down the right field line, doubling in the process to score Wood from second. Capping of the scoring in the inning was junior Lyndsay Mesh with a two-run homerun over the left field fence. It was Mesh's homerun as a Colonel.
The Mavericks (7-14, 2-7) bounced back in the bottom of the second with a two-spot, and followed in the third with three more to retake the lead 5-4. Neither team would score for the remainder of the game.
Nicholls was led by Mesh with her 1-for-3 performance that included two RBI and a homerun. Picking up the loss in the circle was junior Lacey Gros to fall to 9-4 on the season.
The Colonels will be back in action at Southern Miss on Wednesday for a lone mid-week showdown at 6 p.m., and will stay on the road to play at Central Arkansas this weekend.
