Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - Dale Dickerson (Calhoun, La./Southeast Missouri State) struck out the side in the top of the ninth, earning his first save of the season as the Colonels picked up a 6-3 victory over Loyola Tuesday night at Ray E. Didier Field.

Jake Parrish (Albuquerque, N.M./Northeast Oklahoma State), who made his fifth start of the season, improves to 1-3 on the year as he scattered four hits and two unearned runs through six complete. The righty fanned two and issued two walks, allowing just one extra-basehit on the night.

"Jake [Parrish] threw a good game and didn't allow an earned run," said Colonel skipper Chip Durham. "We struggled a little offensively with eight hits and just two walks, and we've got to elevate our game in this situation."

Nicholls (16-18) got on the board early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Centerfielder Chris Murrill (Mobile, Ala./Alabama Southern CC) drew a lead-off walk, and after stealing second and taking advantage of a wild pitch, scored from third on a ground out.

Scott Moseley (Enterprise, Miss./Meridian CC) singled up the middle and scored on a double to left center by Adam Miley (Baton Rouge, La./Bossier Parish CC), putting Nicholls up 2-0.

The Colonels added insurance through the middle innings, plating a run on a sac fly by Josh Labiche (Reserve, La./Delgado CC) in the fourth, and two more in the fifth when Moseley's single to right center brought in Josh Swenson (Applevalley, Minn./North Iowa Area CC) and Keith Kulbeth (Opelousas, La./Westminister Christian Academy) for a 5-2 lead in favor of the Colonels.

After Jacob Knight (Thibodaux, La./E.D. White Catholic) led of the sixth being hit by a pitch, Steven Gauthe drove a double to right center, bringing the freshman around for the Colonels' sixth run of the game.

Moseley went 2-for-4 on the night, scoring a run and driving in two to lead the Colonels at the plate. Gauthe, who also turned in a 2-for-4 performance recorded one RBI.

"We won and are on a little roll with a few games in a row," Durham added, "so hopefully this momentum can carry us. We need to enjoy the win, but turn around and get ready for a big game tomorrow night."

Nicholls will travel to No. 1 LSU Wednesday night, where first pitch at Alex Box Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
