Final Stats

MONROE, La. - Nicholls softball took the first game, 3-1, against Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday afternoon, but fell 4-2 in the second contest at the ULM Softball Complex.

The Colonels (29-16) took the first game 3-1 in light of scoring two runs in the second inning with the first coming with sophomore Whitney Roan taking one for the team with the bases loaded. The following run came on a true freshman Megan Gaspard RBI single through the left side. Scoring in the inning were true freshman Logan Johnson and Kayla Watterson who both singled.

The Warhawks (15-26) added a run in the bottom of the third, an unearned run, but junior Lacey Gros stayed the course, shutting out ULM the rest of the way. Gros improved to 15-10 on the season as she fanned seven, scattered three hits and only issued one walk.

Nicholls added a run in the top of the seventh on a RBI double to left center by Danielle Clayton, making the score 3-1. ULM failed to score in their half giving Nicholls the win.

Leading the Colonels at the plate was Johnson with a 2-for-3 performance with a run scored.

The second game belonged to the Warhawks, defeating the Colonels 4-2. ULM drew first blood in the bottom of the first with a run, and Nicholls responded with a score of its own in the top of the second to tie the score at one all. However, ULM put forth a three-spot in the third to take a 4-1 advantage, and never looked back.

Nicholls scored a run in the fourth on a RBI double by senior Haley Burkett down the right field line to plate junior Lyndsey Mesh to bring the score 4-2 in favor of the Warhawks. However, the Colonels would fail to score for the remainder of the game, grating it to ULM.

Taking the loss in the circle for Nicholls was junior Audrey Wood, falling to 14-6 on the season. Wood tossed 2.1 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.

Leading the Colonels at the plate was Gaspard with a 2-for-4 showing.

Nicholls will be back in action this weekend for a three-game series at Stephen F. Austin.
