THIBODAUX, La. - For the second-straight day, Sam Houston pitching shut out the Colonels, holding Nicholls to just five hits as the Bearkats picked up an 11-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Ray E. Didier Field.

"We didn't play very well today," said head coach Chip Durham. "We didn't do anything good tonight - pitching, defensively or at the plate. Right now we're in a funk. We went from playing really well the past week and a half to playing poorly these last two games."

Ryan Cooper (Sulphur, La./Sulphur) falls to 3-1 on the season after giving up three runs on five hits through 3.0 innings of work for Nicholls, while Jacob Howard tossed a complete-game shut out for Sam Houston State, allowing five hits through seven innings and striking out six Colonels.

For Nicholls, Brady Bourque (Gonzales, La./LSU-Eunice) went 1-for-2 at the plate, singling through the left side in the fifth and drawing a two-out walk in the second.

"I feel like today we had a lot of negative energy that carried over from last night's game," Durham noted. "The thing that we need to do is get this off of our back and get back out here and find a way to win tomorrow."

Chris Murrill (Mobile, Ala./Alabama Southern CC), Drew Snider (Collinsville, Miss./Meridian CC), Josh Swenson (Applevalley, Minn./North Iowa Area CC) and Zach Tisdale (Petal, Miss./Pearl River CC) each finished with one hit on the day.

The Colonels and Bearkats will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. for the series finale.
