Final Stats
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
Stephen F. Austin shutout Nicholls in back-to-back games on Sunday at Hoya Field, picking up a 6-0 victory in the first game and a 1-0 victory in the second.
The Colonels (29-19, 14-10) suffered the first loss to the Lumberjacks (26-21, 15-9) in light of only recording three hits while SFA pumped out six runs on eight hits. SFA broke the scoreless tie in the third with a four run inning, and the score remained that way until the fifth when the Lady Jacks tacked on two more.
Nicholls failed to score for the remainder of the game, giving the win to SFA. Recording Nicholls only hits in the game were Danielle Clayton, Lyndsay Mesh and Whitney Roan.
Suffering the loss in the circle for the Colonels was junior Audrey Wood, allowing six runs on eight hits. Wood fanned four in the loss, falling to 14-7 on the season.
In the second game, Nicholls out hit SFA four-to-two, but scored one run in the bottom of the sixth that proved to be enough for the victory. Junior Lacey Gros took the loss in the circle while only giving up two hits with one unearned run. Gros fanned one in the loss, and fell to 15-12 on the season.
Recording hits in the loss were Clayton, seniors Kodi Butler and Haley Burkett and true freshman Megan Gaspard. Each recorded one hit.
Nicholls will try to get back on track this week when they host LSU-Alexandria on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Colonel Softball Complex.
