Box Score

THIBODAUX, La. - Brett Augilar drove a two-run shot over the right field fence in the top of the eighth, allowing UTSA to reclaim the lead and the eventual win 6-5 over Nicholls in Sunday's series finale at Ray E. Didier Field.

The Colonels drop to 17-25 (8-16 SLC) with the loss and the Roadrunners improve to 25-18 (14-10 SLC).

Nicholls got on the board early, posting a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a triple to left center off the bat of Keith Kulbeth (Opelousas, La./Westminister Christian Academy). Kulbeth attempted to extend the Colonel lead, but was thrown out trying to steal home to end the inning.

The Roadrunners answered with a run of their own in the second on back-to-back basehits and added two more in the third with a pair of RBI single for a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth, Jason Dennis (Mobile, Ala./Alabama Southern CC) ripped a double down the left field line, scoring Adam Miley (Baton Rouge, La./Bosier Parish CC) from second to tie the game at 3-3.

After UTSA took the lead 4-3 in the fifth on an infield RBI single, the Colonels answered with two in the bottom half of the inning thanks to lead-off hits from Josh Swenson (Applevalley, Minn./North Iowa Area CC) and Scott Moseley (Enterprise, Miss./Meridian CC), who each scored, putting Nicholls ahead 5-4.

Ross Larson (New Lenox, Ill./Lurleen B. Wallace CC) took the loss for Nicholls after surrendering Augilar's two-run homer in the eighth, falling to 1-4 on the season.

In his seventh start of the season, Ryan Cooper (Sulphur, La./Sulphur) tossed 7.0 innings, scattering four runs on seven hits. The lefty fanned three and did not issue a walk.

Freshman Jacob Knight (Thibodaux, La./E.D. White Catholic) went 2-for-5 at the plate for Nicholls, scoring once, while Swenson and Kulbeth each also turned in two-hit performances.

The Colonels will travel to New Orleans Wednesday night to face the Privateers for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch at Maestri Field.
