Final Stats
THIBODAUX, La. -
In the final game of the weekend series versus UTSA, the Nicholls softball team dropped a 3-2 decision in the eleventh inning at Roadrunner field on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Colonels fell to 26-13 overall and 12-6 in conference play while the Roadrunners improved to 20-18 overall and 13-8 in SLC action.
Lacey Gros (13-9) pitched in all innings for the Colonels and allowed nine hits, one earned run, and accumulated 10 strikeouts. Dayne Holmes (7-7) picked up the win for the Roadrunners. Holmes gave up three hits, one run, and finished the game with six strikeouts.
The contest remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Megan Gaspard had an RBI single which scored Karla Troxler giving Nicholls a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth frame, the Roadrunners scored the equalizing run when Kristin Wehmeyer was sent home off a sacrificed fly.
The Colonels battled back in extra innings to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth as Haley Burkett singled to left field and scored following a throwing error by the Roadrunners.
With two outs and one player on second in the bottom of the ninth, the Roadrunners forced more innings when they scored a tying 2-2 run following a Colonel throwing error.
After forcing four extra frames, the Roadrunners took control of the game in the bottom of the eleventh when Amber Anderson hit an RBI single scoring Rudi Cantu for 3-2 win over Nicholls.
Gaspard led the Colonels with one hit and one RBI. The Roadrunners were led by Cantu with two hits and two runs.
The Colonels will be back in action Tuesday, April 7, when they host the LSU Tigers. The game is slated to begin at 6pm.
