THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls held a 1-0 advantage heading into the final inning, but No.18 LSU scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take the 2-1 lead that would be enough for the win at the Colonel Softball Complex on Tuesday evening.

"I thought we played very well defensively, and I really can't say enough about Audrey Wood as she kept them [LSU] off balance pretty much the whole night," said head coach Jenny Parsons.

In front of 500-plus in attendance, the Colonels (26-14) held a 1-0 advantage through six innings with the lone run coming in the bottom of the fourth via a RBI sacrifice fly by true freshman Kayla Watterson to foul territory on the left side.

The fly out was deep enough for junior Lyndsay Mesh to score from third to give Nicholls the lead. Mesh led off the inning with a hard hit ball through the legs of LSU shortstop Courtney Hollier that rolled all the way to the left center wall, allowing her to advance all the way to second on the error.

Nicholls held the lead all the until the top of the seventh when LSU (23-9-1) got a huge pinch hit RBI triple out of Juliana Santos that tied the game at one with the go-ahead run at third base with one out. LSU got the run in on error by Watterson at third base to take the 2-1 lead and the game.

Junior Audrey Wood was dubbed with the loss for the Colonels, falling to 13-5 on the season. Wood pitched the whole seven innings, scattering six hits, allowing two runs - only one earned - while yielding only three walks.

The Colonels only had two hits in the game with senior Kodi Butler and sophomore Whitney Roan each notching a hit. Roan reached base two of her three plate appearances.

Nicholls will be back in action this weekend when they host Northwestern State in a three-game series, starting with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Friday.
