Final Stats

THIBODAUX, La. - After a rainy and dreary day, including a rain delay that lasted over an hour, McNeese State defeated Nicholls 18-7 in eight innings on Friday night at Ray E. Didier Field.

Rain halted play in the top of the third, as the teams headed to the locker rooms to brace for heavy downpours that were accompanied with severe lighting. After an hour and six minute break, play resumed in the top of third inning with the score in favor of McNeese State 3-2 with one out.

"We were unable to find our groove tonight after the delay," said Head Coach Chip Durham. "I know tomorrow on Senior Day that our guys will be fired up and playing for our six seniors."

Six seniors: Lance Dupuis, Lance Guidroz, Ryan Harding, Ross Larson, Jake Parrish and Josh Swenson will be honored before the first game along with their families.

The Colonels (18-32, 8-22) were led by juniors Brady Bourque and Drew Snider in the loss with both putting forth multi-hit performances. Bourque was credited with a double, two RBI and a run. Junior Jarret Dunnam was dubbed with the loss, tossing 2.1 innings and allowing four runs - all earned - on four hits. Dunnam falls to 3-8 on the season.

The Cowboys (22-29, 10-21) started the scoring in the top of the second with three runs to take a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom half. Nicholls responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs on a Bourque double to right center that brought home juniors Beau Faulk and Zach Tisdale to cut the deficit, 3-2.

Both teams traded three runs apiece in the third, making the score 6-5 in favor of the Cowboys. However, McNeese State put forth a seven-run fourth to make the score 13-5, and put the contest out of reach for Nicholls.

The Cowboys went on to finish the night off with 18 runs on 17 hits, while the Colonels only managed seven runs on 10 hits.

The two clubs are scheduled to play a doubleheader tomorrow, weather permitting, with the first game slated for 11 a.m. The second contest will follow within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the first game.
