Final Stats

THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls baseball team picked up a 3-1 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, while the second game was halted in the top of the fourth and never resumed due to the severity of the rain that fell at Ray E. Didier Field on Saturday afternoon.

Before the first game on Saturday, six seniors: Lance Dupuis, Lance Guidroz, Ryan Harding, Ross Larson, Jake Parrish and Josh Swenson were honored with their families and Head Coach Chip Durham.

"It was important for us, and very important for our seniors to get that win," said Durham. "They are group of high class individuals, and I know they will go on to do some great things in life. I just wish that we could have completed that second scheduled game in for them."

The Colonels (19-32, 9-23 SLC) got all of their run support for the first game in the bottom of the third with a three-spot to take a 3-0 lead. Of the runs, two of them came courtesy of a triple to right center by Swenson that plated juniors Brady Bourque and Chris Murrill. Bourque and Murrill led off the inning with back-to-back singles.

The final run of the third inning for the Colonels came via a RBI single by junior Jason Dennis through the right side to score Swenson.

The Cowboys (21-30, 10-22 SLC) were kept in check most of the game due to junior hurler Tyler Minto carrying the Colonels through the top of the ninth. Minto had a shutout at hand heading into the top of the last, but fatigue set in as he yielded a hit and gave up a walk to the first two batters he faced in the ninth. Junior Dale Dickerson replaced him with no outs and two runners on, faced one batter, gave up a walk to load the bases, and was removed for Larson.

Larson quickly went to work, getting three consecutive outs while only giving up one run to get the save. It was The New Lenox, Illinois native's seventh save of the season.

Leading the Colonels at the plate in the victory was Swenson with a 2-for-4 showing that included two RBI, a run and a triple. Minto got the win, improving to 3-3 on the season while scattering seven hits through 8.0 innings of work. The Mobile, Ala. native allowed only one run, which was earned, and also only surrendered one walk while fanning three.

The second game was on a steady pace until rain set in at 2:34 p.m., leaving the game at a stand still in the top of the fourth. At the time when play was halted, McNeese State was ahead 1-0, and the game was never resumed.
