Final Stats

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Nicholls took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but McNeese State responded in the bottom half with three runs, and went on to win 4-1 in five innings at Cowgirl Diamond on Sunday afternoon.

The game was delayed twice by lightning, and the contest did not officially get underway until 2:45 p.m.

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Nicholls (30-25, 14-16) picked up a run in the second via a RBI double by sophomore Whitney Roan to centerfield that plated junior Lyndsay Mesh. McNeese State (29-26, 20-10) responded in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs on four hits that included back-to-back doubles to leadoff the inning.

Nicholls went scoreless for the remainder of the game, while McNeese State added a run in the bottom of the fourth to increase its lead, 4-1.

Being fortunate to dodge the rain and unfavorable conditions for the first four innings, the skies opened up in the fifth, pouring enough rain to force game officials to call the game.

The Cowgirls clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament, while the Colonels season comes to an end.

Leading Nicholls at the plate was Roan, knocking in the team's only run while going 1-for-2 with a RBI and a double.

Junior Lacey Gros took the loss, falling to 16-16 on the season. Gros allowed four runs - three earned - on six hits while fanning five.
