Final Stats
HAMMOND, La. -
Nicholls tied the game 1-1 in the top of the eighth, but could not hold off Southeastern La. in the bottom of the ninth as the Lions prevailed 2-1 at Alumni Field.
The Colonels (18-28, 8-19) trailed 1-0 heading into the eighth before junior Brady Bourque stole home on a double steal to tie the game.
The Lions (31-17, 18-9) failed to score in the bottom of the eighth sending the game into the final frame tied at one. Nicholls failed to score in the top half, leaving it in the hands of Southeastern La. to decide.
Southeastern La. produced in the final stanza, getting a RBI single from Justin Boudreaux to give the Lions the 2-1 victory and the sweep.
Sophomore Drew Erwin was charged with the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season. Erwin tossed 2.1 innings, giving up a run while striking out one.
Leading Nicholls at the plate was Bourque with a 1-for-3 showing that included a run, a double, and a stolen base. Junior Jason Dennis was the only Colonel with a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4.
Nicholls will pick up action next weekend at Texas State for a three-game series.
