Final Stats
SAN MARCOS, Texas -
Texas State scored six runs in the bottom of the first, and proceeded to add four more through the course of the game to defeat Nicholls 10-2 on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Baseball Stadium.
"We came out flat as a team today, and never recovered from Texas State's big first inning," said Head Coach Chip Durham. "It is important for us to have a strong showing tomorrow."
The Colonels (18-30, 8-21) were led by juniors Keith Kulbeth and Drew Snider with both having multi-hit games. Kulbeth scored both of Nicholls' runs, and accounted for one RBI. Dubbed with the loss for the Colonels was junior hurler Tyler Minto, tossing 5.0 innings, giving up seven runs - all earned - on 10 hits to fall to 2-3 on the year.
After a scoreless top half for the Colonels, the Bobcats (36-12, 22-6) put a six-spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first to take a 6-0 lead that Nicholls would never recover from. Nicholls put a run on the board in the top of the second, courtesy of a sacrifice fly by true freshman Jacob Knight that plated Kulbeth.
The Colonels added another in the top of the sixth when Kulbeth hit a solo shot over the centerfield fence.
Nicholls would not score for the rest of the game, falling to Texas State 10-2. Both teams will close out the series tomorrow at Bobcat Baseball Stadium at 1 p.m. The game can be followed live statistically via GameTracker at www.geauxcolonels.com.
