SHREVEPORT, La. - After hanging tough in the first half, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team (2-5) fell victim to a second half surge from the undefeated Centenary Ladies (5-0).

The Colonels faced 28 Centenary shots, 22 of which came in the second half, and sophomore goalkeeper Molly Merserau totaled 13 saves. However, it wasn't enough as a pair of Centenary shots found the back of the net and Nicholls fell 2-0 on Friday night in Shreveport.

Nicholls came out firing early on, out-shooting the Ladies 9-6 in the first half and totaling four of the Colonels' five corner kicks on the night in the opening half.

Sophomore Keisha Brown led Nicholls with four shots and freshman Jessica Herradon put two of her three shots on net as the Colonels totaled 15 shots on the night. However, Ladies' goalkeeper Deb Hill turned away all seven Nicholls' shots on net.

After the first half, the Ladies came out with a 22-shot attack in the second. The Colonels hung tough as Mersereau recorded her second match of the year with double-digit saves. Through the first seven matches of the year, Merserau as totaled 49 saves.

Unfortunately, goals in the 56th and 75th minutes put the match away for the Ladies.

The Colonels, who went 1-2 on their now-concluded three-match road trip, will now return home to host Texas Southern at 1 p.m. at the Nicholls State Soccer Complex on Sunday.
