JACKSON, Miss.- Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Molly Mersereau posted her third contest of the season with double-digit saves by stopping 12 shots at Jackson State. However, it still wasn't enough to stop an aggressive Tiger offense as the Nicholls State University women's soccer team (3-6-0) fell at JSU (1-4-0) 3-0 on Friday night.
The Tigers outshot the Colonels 14-7 and controlled the action early on as Keba Ambrose staked JSU to a 1-0 lead with a strike in the tenth minute.
The two squads battled the rest of the first half and into the second half. Neither side could break through, and the contest remained 1-0, until the Tigers struck again, 29 minutes into the second half as Lisa Wren got past the Colonel defense and scored on a breakaway to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
Facing a two-goal deficit with fifteen minutes left, the Colonels tried to force their offense forward, but Jackson State whethered the Nicholls attack before breaking loose from teh Colonel defense once again for a 89th minute goal to claim a 3-0 lead and put the game on ice.
The Colonels will now return home to host Alcorn State on Tuesday. After coming up short in their first attempt to tie the program's single season wins record, the Colonels will go for their fourth win on Tuesday against the Braves at the Nicholls State Soccer Complex.
