A potent offensive attack from Louisiana Tech (4-0-0) proved too much for the Nicholls State University women's soccer team (1-3-0) as the Colonels fell to the Lady Techsters by a final of 4-0 on Friday afternoon to wrap up their three-homestand with a 1-2-0 record.
Following a loss on Sunday to the Troy University Trojans (3-0-0 at the time) Friday's setback marks the Colonels' second straight loss to an undefeated program.
"This is something we talked about the other day," head coach Dylan Harrison said. "Our girls need to understand the difference between playing well and losing and not playing well and losing. That has to be what we learn from this game. Even though we put together some decent performances, we have to show up and be willing to do it every week."
The Lady Techsters got three goals from Rachel King (her fourth, fifth and sixth of the season) and one more from Mo Rockwell. Sophomore midfielder Sam Etherington led the Colonel offense with three shots on goal in the shutout.
"The positives are that it's early in the year and it's not in conference when matches have more weight," Harrison said. "Hopefully, we can learn from this and we can make it a season-changing type of event. If our girls respond well and get their heads back into it and realize that we have some work ahead of us, then we will fine. We will absolutely be fine, because that's not our team, that's not what we are about. We're about working hard, working for each other and staying positive and seeing where that gets us. We just weren't able to do that today."
After concluding the season's longest homestand, the Colonels will now prepare for a weekend three-team tournament at Jacksonville State beginning Sept. 11. Nicholls will face off against Alabama A&M next Friday at 6 p.m. before a 1 p.m. tilt the following afternoon against the hosting Gamecocks.
