Final Stats
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
Freshman forward Alisha Allen led the Colonels with 14 points and sophomore Portia Washington added 11 points to the Nicholls cause. However, it wasn't enough for the Nicholls State University women's basketball team (3-12, 0-3 Southland Conference) as Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (8-6, 3-0 Southland) stayed perfect in league action by a final of 85-51 at Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas on Saturday night.
The Colonels got things started as junior forward Jasmine Hoskins scored the first two points of the ballgame, but the Ladyjacks quickly got hot en route to turning in five double digit scorers on the night. Tammara Marion led all scorers with 15 points.
The Ladyjacks would push their lead to 27 points in the first half as a three-pointer by Marion made it 41-14 with 5:02 left in the opening frame, but the Colonels continued to battle and closed the half strong. Nicholls outscored SFA 15-4 over the final five minutes of the first to make it 45-29 at the break.
Unfortunately, the Ladyjacks rebounded coming out of the lockerroom. When play resumed, SFA continued to pull away, outshooting Nicholls thanks to a .438 team shooting percentage in the second.
The Colonels will return to Nicholls in search of their first conference win of the season on Wednesday Jan. 20 for a matchup against Central Arkansas. The Bears are coming off a 79-67 win on Saturday over Texas State for their first league win of the season. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
