THIBODAUX - Nicholls women's basketball team put forth its strongest offensive showing of the season, however, so did Northwestern State as the Lady Demons defeated the Colonels 97-67 on Saturday afternoon in Stopher Gym.

"We played pretty well offensively, but Northwestern State was just lights out shooting the ball," said Head Coach DoBee Plaisance. "I have to give credit to our girls for hanging tough throughout the game, and we will work hard to prepare for UTSA these next couple of days in practice."

The Colonels (3-10, 0-1) shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the floor and 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from three-point range for the game, both of which were season highs; however, the Lady Demons (8-6, 1-0) were 67.9 percent (36-of-53) from the floor and 68.4 percent (13-of-19) from downtown in their win. The point totals for both teams were season highs.

The Lady Demons tapped out with five players scoring in double digits, and were led by Anna Cate Williams with 27 points. Williams was 10-of-13 from field goal range and an impressive 7-of-8 from three-point range.

Nicholls countered with three players crossing the 10-point plateau with true freshman Alisha Allen leading the way with 27. Allen was 8-of-14 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point territory in the loss.

Also scoring 10-plus for the Colonels were junior Ricshanda Bickham and sophomore Jasmine Hoskins with 19 and 10, respectively. Bickham had five rebounds, four assists and two steals to add to her stat sheet, while Hoskins recorded five rebounds, a block and a steal.

Both teams traded points early on in the first half before Northwestern State went on a 12-0 run that lasted roughly three minutes that Nicholls never recovered from. The Lady Demons padded its first half lead, leading by as many as 20 with under four minutes left before taking a 43-28 advantage to intermission.

Northwestern State picked up right where they left off in the second half, increasing its lead to as many as 32 twice before going on to win 97-67.

Nicholls will be back in action on Wednesday against Texas-San Antonio in Stopher Gym with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m.
