Final Stats

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team had a five-match winning streak come to a halt against the defending SLC Champions Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, falling 4-2 to the Islanders at the HEB Center.

The two teams only played singles and skipped doubles due to weather concerns.

The Colonels (5-2, 1-1 Southland) only recorded two wins in singles play with wins at the No. 3 and No. 5 spots in the lineup. Getting the win at No. 3 was senior Phenyo Matong, fighting through to get a 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5 win over true freshman Robert Raguz, while true freshman Dmitry Kozionov handled sophomore Alex Pavlov at the No. 5 slot, 6-4, 6-1.

The Islanders (1-4, 1-0 Southland) took two three-set matches from the Colonels with the first coming at the No. 1 spot as junior Radu Ionescu fell 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to All-SLC senior Dmitry Novikov, and true freshman sensation Roy Knight was on the wrong end of a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 decision against sophomore Nathan Robinson in the No. 6 spot.

Nicholls will pick up action on Thursday as they travel to play Tulane in New Orleans. First serve for that match up is set for 1 p.m.
