Final Stats

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team got back to its winning ways on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Butler, 5-2, in the Colonel Tennis Complex.

The Colonels (8-3) swept the doubles point, defeating Butler in all three matches handedly. With the doubles point in hand, Nicholls and Butler went to work in singles action.

Nicholls got wins at the No.1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to cruise to a 5-2 team victory.

Setting the tone in singles was junior Radu Ionescu at the No. 1, defeating Ben Raynauld 6-2, 6-0, and senior Phenyo Matong followed it up with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Chris Herron at No. 2.

Senior Vlad Popa and true freshman Roy Knight claimed the other two victories in singles with Popa posting a 6-2, 6-4 win and Knight grabbing a 6-2, 6-3 win.

The Colonels are set to host Florida A&M on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
