Final Stats

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team continued its winning ways, defeating Florida A&M 5-2 on Friday afternoon in the Colonel Tennis Complex.

The Colonels (9-3) secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before heading into singles play.

In singles play, junior Radu Ionescu fell at No. 1 singles, but the rest of the team picked up the slack by winning four of the next five singles matches to claim victory.

Senior Phenyo Matong picked up a three-set victory at No. 2 over Michael Moore, while senior Vlad Popa and freshman Dmitry Kozionov made quick work of their opponents with two-set wins. Sophomore Razvan Cojocaru also got a win to remain undefeated on the season.

Freshman Roy Knight was the only Colonel besides Ionescu to lose a singles match with Knight losing by retiring in the first set.

The Colonels will resume action on Thursday March 18 against UTSA. First serve at the Colonel Tennis Complex is set for 1:30 p.m.
