Final Stats

THIBODAUX, Louisiana - The Nicholls men's tennis team dropped a 5-3 decision to Texas-San Antonio on Thursday afternoon at the Nicholls Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Colonels drop to 9-4 overall and 1-2 Southland Conference, while the Roadrunners improve to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in Southland action.

Nicholls got started on the right foot as it secured the doubles point with a win at No. 1 as senior sensations Radu Ionescu and Vlad Popa picked up an 8-5 victory by downing Rodrigo Morgado and Martin Ayala. However the Roadrunners took control of the match by earning the next two doubles points to take a 3-1 lead heading into singles action. UTSA's Max Stratmann and Tyler Brown downed Nicholls' Dmitry Kozionov and Phenyo Matong 8-6, while Hugo Guanais and Pedro Zanotelli of UTSA earned the final doubles point by beating the Colonels Eric Fisher and Roy Knight 8-4.

The Roadrunner took a 5-1 lead with a trio of victories to start singles. First off the court was the matchup at No. 3 where Rodrigo Morgado came out on top against Vlad Popa 6-3, 6-4. UTSA's Max Stratmann followed that up with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Nicholls Eric Fisher. UTSA continue to its momentum as Jorge Delgado downed Nicholls Roy Knight 7-5, 6-3.

Nicholls gained another two points as No. 1 Radu Ionescu downed UTSA's Tyler Brown 6-3, 6-3 and the Colonels Dmitry Kozionov in the No. 5 spot defeated UTSA's Daniel Moreiras 6-4, 6-4. Wrapping up the match at No. 2 and securing the victory for UTSA was Martin Ayala who topped the Colonels Phenyo Matong 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(5).

The Colonels will continue Southland Conference action this weekend as it plays host to Texas-Pan American at 12 p.m, on Saturday, March 20 at the Nicholls Tennis Complex.
